An approaching Granddaughter Birthday is an exciting time for the entire family! This is a wonderful chance to reflect upon how much she has grown, changed, all the small and large steps that she has taken as she becomes her own little person. A Granddaughter's first birthday is as much a celebration of how much she's changed all of your lives as celebrating the milestone of her first year. As the birthdays come and go it is so much fun to see the focus shift to the day being all about her. Of course, as she grows and understands the concept of her birthday more that focus also shifts to all the fun birthday gifts she will receive.
Beyond the joy of having our entire family together in the same house as relatives from all over made the trip, the most fun of our daughter's first birthday was watching her eat a bit of birthday cake. I use the term eat loosely, most of it ended up both in her hair and between her toes, but the sugar high she had after let us all know she did ingest some of her cake. Thankfully her Nana brought an adorable "My First Birthday" bib as one of her Granddaughter birthday gifts for this special day. The pink cupcake even matched the pink icing that was very shortly everywhere! Nana also brought another bib that says "Today I Eat Cake" which we will pull out for her fast approaching next birthday.
Since all of her Grandparents were able to attend the celebration our little girl spent what seemed like hours tearing apart the beautiful giftwrap that all of her Granddaughter birthday gifts were wrapped in. There were collections of pink stuffed teddy bears, lady bugs toys, a baby brag book for her Daddy and I, and many other wonderful presents. Out of everything her favorite gift to this day is the Pink Puppy Hooded Towel and Bath Set with her name personalized on it from Grandpa. When it isn't being used to dry her after her nightly bath, she's running around with it over her head or wrapped around as a cape.
Of course, every family celebrates a Granddaughter birthday differently. Some are lavish occasions with piles of gifts from all her friends, others are smaller affairs for the family alone, but these are wonderful milestone days that none of you will ever forget. An extra birthday hint? Make sure to have extra batteries on hand before the big day! We somehow missed them on our endless supply lists and ended up with a number of dying cameras by the end of her party.
